Nibbles

Nibbles

Only six years after its first cartoon, Tom and Jerry was enhanced by a new character, a little mouse called Nibbles, who was introduced in "The Milky Waif".  He was different from Jerry with his grey colour and incredible appetite.  Cast as an orphan in one episode and accompanied by an alter ego in another, Nibbles was to take the name of Tuffy, beginning with his seventh appearance in "Little School Mouse".  He turns up as an apprentice musketeer, a full musketeer, and as Robin Hood's faithful companion.  Unlike the more deliberate Jerry, Nibbles embodied youthful impetuosity and daring, always ready to provoke Tom, to set off dangerous fireworks.  Only in "Little School Mouse" does he stand for peaceful coexistence, finally urging Tom and Jerry, as his students, to be good friends.
